Through the six charters on vessels with scrubbers and an additional two fixtures that have been secured for durations of three years, the company’s charter coverage has improved, and the contracted revenue has increased by more than $160 million.
In addition to Danaos, MPC Container Ships signed agreements for the purchase of five scrubbers.
They will be retrofitted on five vessels within the company’s fleet before 1 January 2020, which is the implementation date of the new sulphur emission cap regulation. The agreement also includes the purchase of scrubbers for up to 50 more vessels.
The interest regarding scrubbers is high nowadays, with companies like TORM, Maersk, DFDS, Safe Bulkers and Maran Tankers having chosen to equip their ships with scrubbers as well.
