There is no mention of injuries to the other 31 seafarers
Rosynaldo Marques dos Santos died yesterday following the fire on board the 18,012-dwt Diva (built 1980), a statement says.
Transpetro says the blaze broke out late yesterday evening when the ship was 25 miles off the coast of Marica, Rio de Janeiro.
Flames were confined to the engine room away from the cargo tanks and a tug boat is now on scene to assist the vessel, the Brazilian owner explains.
There is no mention of injuries to the other 31 seafarers on board the ship when the incident occurred.
Transpetro says the Diva went through a dry-docking earlier this year and has been operating normally since that time.
An investigation is now underway and Transpetro will offer help to all of the crew and the dead man’s family.
