A 35-year-old sailor, part of the crew aboard a cargo vessel flying the Malta flag and stationed at the Perama shipyard repair area, was discovered deceased by hanging in his cabin on March 27th, according to the Piraeus Central Port Authority.
After investigation, it was determined that the 35-year-old crew member held the position of kitchen cleaner and possessed a foreign citizenship.
Coast Guard officials promptly arrived at the location, and the individual was subsequently transported by an ambulance to the General Hospital of Nikaia, where he was officially declared deceased.
