APM Terminals Maasvlakte II will develop a ‘Cool Port’ barge service to make shipping in an out of the Port of Rotterdam efficient and reliable. Currently the Port of Rotterdam has eight deep sea terminals; 600 barges; and about 150,000 shippers from across Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
The new barge service will include a daily fixed-time operation from APM Terminals operations in Rotterdam and Maasvlakte II to a cold storage warehouse and distribution centre in the Waalhaven section of the Port of Rotterdam.

Containers that are using this service can now be found at the Kloosterboer facility, allowing quicker pick-up and delivery by the port’s customers.
This facility also enables a more efficient distribution of products. About 35km of the traffic-congested port area, can be accessed by trucks that are carrying the temperature-controlled products to inland wholesalers and their final destinations, the retailers.
Finally, direct links between the terminals and the Cool Port aim to improve real-time vessel arrival and container status for planning purposes.
