Eimskips containership M/V Lagarfoss experienced a malfunction while en route to Reykjavik
Eimskip’s containershipM/V Lagarfoss experienceda malfunction on Wednesday evening while en routeto Reykjavik, at the location abt 70 nautical miles south east of the Icelandic coast, 21 June, 2015.
Weather conditions were favourable and no danger to crew, cargo or the vessel under the circumstances. A decison was made to sign a contract with the Icelandic Coast Guard to assist M/V LAGARFOSS to her destination Reykjavik under her own power.
The Coast Guard vessel Thormet with M/V Lagarfoss inthemorning of 22nd July to assist the ship to Reykjavik where M/V Lagarfoss is expected to arrive today.
According to official statement by the company, during a recent guarantee dry-docking of the vessel in Hamburg the manufacturer of the steering gear decided to replace parts in the gear, which was upon their own decision making and demand. Company says that it is highly likely that the malfunction is the responsiblity of the gear manufacturer and entirely their responsibility.
