On 11 May the container vessel CMA CGM Ermitage struck a quay wall and a nearby gantry crane in the Elbe River in Hamburg, Germany.
The ship was reportedly approaching the Port of Hamburg around midday when it made a sharp turn to avoid a small yacht in its path.
While the maneuver successfully prevented a collision with the yacht, it caused the vessel to hit the quay wall and the crane, resulting in visible damage and rendering it not operational, the terminal operator stated.
