According to the U.S. Naval Forces Command, on 18 December the U.S. flagged container ship named “Maersk Kinloss”, managed to save the life of three Iranian mariners who have been stranded at sea for several days.
When Maersk, the vessel’s company found the three survivals, immediately informed NAVCENT about the rescue operation. This communication was achieved via the relationship of the commercial maritime industry and NAVCENT’s Naval Cooperation and Guidance for Shipping (NCAGS) members.
The rescue is an example of professional mariners rendering assistance to others in distress at sea, a responsibility and mission that we in the U.S. Navy share and take very seriously.
… the U.S. Naval Forces Command noted.
For the records, the stranded mariners announced to be transferred to the Omani coast guard, who also manage their return back to Iran.
Overall, boaters who eventually end up stranded are a common-seen phenomenon, having the safety equipment when onboard can reduce and prevent such incidents.
