The container ship APL Qingdao lost propulsion near New York Harbor on April 5, while navigating the busy Kill Van Kull shipping waterway.
According to local new sources, the United States Coast Guard confirmed that the container ship had lost propulsion near New York, stating that tugboats escorting the vessel managed to bring it to a halt near the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.
The ship regained propulsion and was safely anchored in Stapleton Anchorage, located just north of the Verrazzano Bridge, with the assistance of three towing vessels.
After repairs to its propulsion system, the ship met safety requirements and departed the harbor early Sunday.
Unlike a previous incident involving the container ship MV Dali colliding with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore due to power loss, the APL Qingdao did not experience a complete loss of power during this incident.
