According to Canadian Coast Guard, a container ship registered in Liberia is currently experiencing a fire off the East Coast of Canada.
By Monday afternoon, the crew of the containership had updated the Coast Guard, stating that the fire was now contained. The vessel successfully dropped anchor near the entrance to the Saguenay Fjord, specifically at Cap de Granit.
Luckily, there have been no reported injuries or risks of pollution, and the Coast Guard is actively monitoring the situation. The anchored vessel is not causing any disruptions to commercial navigation.
The Coast Guard icebreaker Amundsen, along with the Ocean Group tug Ocean Taiga from Quebec City, is present at the location to provide assistance as required. Two pilot boats from the Laurentian Pilotage Authority were initially on site but departed.
Despite the incident, the crew of the MSC Sao Paulo V chose not to evacuate.
