The container ship ‘Delphis Gdansk’ collided with the bulk carrier ‘BBC Neptune’, in the early hours of 27 March, in Great Belt west of Kalundborg, Denmark, while proceeding in opposite directions.
According to international media reports, both ships were significantly damaged as a result form the incident, while one of them reportedly sustained fire. ‘Delphis Gdansk’ also lost some containers.
The 1,924 TEU boxship ‘Delphis Gdansk’ was en route from Netherlands to Russia, while the Handysize bulk carrier ‘BBC Neptune’ was heading from Russia to Sweden, when the collision occurred.
Several Danish coast guard vessels and a helicopter have been deployed at the scene.
There have been no injuries reported to the crew and no evidence of environmental pollution, according to the Danish Coast Guard.
