An inland container barge collided with the Willemsbrug bridge east of the port of Rotterdam on July 1. Three containers fell into the water, as a result of the accident.
According to local media, no injuries were reported, while the fallen containers have been recovered. After the collision, the bridge was closed to traffic, with engineers evaluating it for any potential damage.
The bridge is now open and the cause of the incident under investigation.
Commenting on the accident, Ron Teuben, an inland barge captain for a different vessel, told it is likely that it occurred due to miscalculation before loading.
