New ways of cooperation can offer can benefit many parties, share costs and risks, and come up with proven solutions quickly, Kalmar believes. The company stated that co-creation makes sure that the developed solution solves a real customer need and it speeds up industry development by leading to completely new solutions that combine different perspectives.
Currently, the logistics industry is in the middle of a major technological change that aims to transform the business landscape, Kalmar believes. In fact, digitalisation, automation and electrification have brought change, as well as various new technical possibilities.
Commenting on the new situation, Peter Söderberg, Vice President, R&D Mobile Solutions, Kalmar, says that:
Even though today’s rapidly changing business environment requires the development of completely new ways of conducting business, the risks and financial investment of such an effort may be impractical for a single company. If we can share the development, we can do things together much faster and with less risk for both parties

In addition, Svante Alverönn, Vice President Solution Sales, Kalmar, believes that co-creation incorporates a wide range of activities. It starts with understanding of the customer’s business, expanding to the opportunities and challenges they have in their operations. After understanding the specific needs, then a creative discussion takes place, a process that requires trust.
Moreover, Mr. Söderberg highlighted that creating solutions for new industries can bring many new challenges, which can be solved in cooperation with the customer. An example of that, Kalmar says, is its recent project with an industrial company, where the two parties analyzed automating logistics processes in an industrial application. By combining the knowledge and expertise of both parties, they managed to come up with a completely new concept.
As far as container terminals are considered, Peter Söderberg notes that the act of moving goods around is part of the core value that companies provide for their customers, as every project has different needs.
