CMA CGM, a French container transportation and shipping company, singed an agreement with World Wide Fund (WWF) France, as an effort to achieve shipping and logistics decarbonization.
As disclosed, the partnership will aim to fighting against illicit trafficking in protected species and preserve marine ecosystems.
[the partnership] echoes the many actions taken by the Group to tackle global warming and its effects on biodiversity, such as the decision not to use the Northern Sea Route in order to preserve the fragile ecosystems of the Arctic, to strengthen the detection and protection of cetaceans or to stop transporting plastic waste by sea in order to prevent it from being exported to countries where its treatment or recovery cannot be guaranteed
…said CMA CGM yesterday in a statement.
Recently, CMA CGM announced its decision to stop carrying plastic waste on its ship as of June 1st, 2022. This decision comes as a part of the company’s commitment towards more sustainable trade in order to help protect the oceans and biodiversity
Last month, it was announced that Electrolux will use more sustainable fuels for 25% of its total sea freight, by partnering with Maersk and CMA CGM to use biofuel based on waste oils and LNG, aiming to reduce its sea transport greenhouse gas emissions by 15% in 2022.
