Sustainable Shipping Initiative (SSI) is a multi-stakeholder initiative with the aim to improve the sustainability of the shipping industry in terms of social, environmental and economic impacts. Founded in 2010, SSI accelerates sustainable development in the shipping industry in three ways; through leadership, innovation and sharing. SSI members range from charterers, shipowners and shipyards to ports & port operators, banks, ship finance and insurance providers, classification societies and technology companies. The SSI is leading the way in doing what is right and required to meet the goals outlined in its vision for 2040 by way of the SSI Roadmap. Namely, the SSI’s Vision develops a framework for members to shape the future they want while the SSI Roadmap is a ‘live’ working tool setting key milestones and priorities, which must be met in order to create a sustainable shipping industry by 2040.
