Mindfulness refers to a moment-by-moment nonjudgemental awareness of your thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment.
When we practice mindfulness, our thoughts tune into what we are sensing in the present moment, rather than rehearsing the past or worrying about the future.
Incorporate mindfulness into your daily life
When you first wake up:
- Don’t grab your phone to check your messages or emails
- Take a moment to acknowledge that you are alive and breathing
- Scan your body and notice any sensations
- Express gratitude
Throughout the day:
- Do one thing at a time
- Pay full attention to what you are doing
- When the mind wanders, investigate your distractions and bring your mind back to your task
- Be kind; do at least one act of kindness every day
Before you go to sleep at night:
- Bring your attention to your breathing; observe five mindful breaths
