The inability to concentrate on the task at hand is one of the maladies of our time. Multitasking and social media can cause distractions during work onboard. However, for safety reasons, crew members should avoid distractions and improve their focus and productivity.
The benefits of improving concentration and focus make it an issue worth addressing; in that regard, everyone onboard should be aware that building healthy habits like getting enough sleep and taking breaks are vital.
#1 Establish a to-do list
To-do lists not only help you prioritize what tasks you need to get done first, but they can also serve as a record of the loose ends.
#2 Eliminate distractions
Close social media and other apps, silence notifications, and keep your phone hidden from sight
#3 Get a good night’s sleep
Getting a solid seven to eight hours ahead of a busy work day can make a difference.
#4 Focus on the moment
While it isn’t easy, make an effort to let go of past events and acknowledge your concerns about the future while on duty.
#5 Eat well and try a small amount of caffeine
Choose foods that moderate blood sugar, maintain energy, and fuel the brain.
