People usually equate success with talent. Certainly, success isn’t created by talent only, let alone, it can be acquired adopting behaviors which – although requiring zero talent – have significant impact on one’s life success. No matter the kind of our workplace (onboard & ashore) there are 10 simple steps to follow in order to succeed!
- Be on time
Most of the people call belatedness lack of respect or regard for the other person; others call it lack of self-respect. Indeed, being prompt to meetings, to work or appointments, indicates good organization and planning skills, both of which can lead to greater success.
- Develop work ethic
Work ethic is a belief that hard work and diligence have a moral benefit and an inherent ability, virtue or value to strengthen character and individual abilities. Having a strong work ethic is vital for achieving goals; it gives strength to their orientation and the right mindset.
- Exert yourself
Effort is not the only thing needed in order to be successful, but it is an absolute must. No matter how much is going on in life, success requires a sense of freshness, excitement, and of course, being present.

- Improve your body language
We communicate on three levels: verbal, non-verbal and paralanguage. (the way we use our voice to add meaning to our message). Body language is referred to the means by which humans convey information through conscious or subconscious body movements, facial expressions and gestures. Actually, body language can have a large impact on our thoughts and feelings, and that includes how we feel at work. Did you know that 55% we communicate using our body language, 38% with our tone of voice and 7% using words?
- Boost Your Energy
In case our energy levels are low, we lack motivation. Actually, energy is the natural consequence of living healthy. Thus, get better sleep, maintain a proper diet, try meditation, exercise ore, and have some fun.
If you don’t have any energy, you can’t do a great job with your kids because they have more energy than you do. If you don’t have energy, you’re not going to run your own business, much less multiple businesses.

- Maintain a Positive Attitude
Having a positive attitude is essential in order to be creative which largely determines one’s success. Being negative, not only hides our own efforts, but also those of others. Furthermore, positive attitude means positive emotions; studies have shown that positive emotions are essential to succeed in the workplace.
- Be Passionate
Similar with energy, passion is directly linked with motivation; it is about doing everything with love; about discovering the key of self-motivation. Leadership experts talk about employee engagement which could be addressed as passion in the workplace. What about family and social life? Always bear in mind that boredom, stress, fear and routine are the enemies of passion.
- Be coachable
Admit change as well as constructive feedback. Most of the people are afraid of being judged or criticized by others, mainly in the workplace. Putting such fears aside, being open to new ideas and unlocking your potential drives peak performance.
- Do extra
Having take the aforesaid steps, doing extra work and adding value comes in a natural way, particularly because people feel proud for their performance.
- Always be prepared
Athletes are a great example of preparation. Similarly, prepare yourself so you have the desired skills to execute your ideas. We need to be prepared because we don’t know the future. We want a “safety net” when things go wrong. Learn from other people or even use the internet!
