Jiangxi New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding has secured a contract to construct eight 6,800-ton hybrid electric, methanol dual-fuel tankers for MH Simonsen.
These vessels will boast features such as wide cargo loading, eco-friendly technology, smart operation, and noise reduction. The electric propulsion system, powered by two DC low-speed permanent magnet motors, enables the tankers to run on methanol stored in dual-fuel tanks.
A notable addition to these tankers is an independent energy storage unit, ensuring their ability to sail safely even in the event of a power loss. Furthermore, the vessels will be equipped with fourteen stainless steel cargo tanks.
This marks a significant milestone for the revitalized Jiangxi New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding, as it marks their first venture into building methanol dual-fuel vessels. Currently, the shipyard has more than 20 ships on order.
To remind, a major methanol propulsion order was recently announced, as Wärtsilä will supply the methanol-fuelled auxiliary engines for five new container vessels for COSCO Shipping Lines Co., Ltd and seven new container vessels for Orient Overseas Container Line.
