China’s cargo throughput at ports increased by 6.7%, reaching around 5.5 billion tonnes in the first five months of 2019, in comparison to the same period last year, according to official data. Official data indicate that foreign trade cargo throughput reached a total of 1.75 billion tonnes in the January-May period, which is an increase of 2.3% year on year.
In addition, domestic trade also experienced a rise of 9%, according to MOT.
In the meantime, container throughput at ports saw a 5.2% increase in the period, amounting for 104.67 million 20-foot TEUs.
This growth came during China’s increasing waterway freight volume, which achieved a 7.8% year-on-year rise for the first five months.
