On the 7th of March 2024, Chimbusco Pan Nation Petro-chemical Co., Ltd (CPN) supplied 300 metric tonnes of ISCC-EU Certified B24 marine biofuel to the “YM INCEPTION,” a containership owned by Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation.
This supply is the first marine biofuel supply to Yang Ming vessels globally. According to CPN, this innovative product aligns seamlessly with ongoing global initiatives aimed at combating climate change and mitigating the environmental impact associated with traditional marine fuels.
CPN is committed to be the frontrunner in the transition towards more sustainable marine fuel options, and would continue to seek new collaborative opportunities to achieve broader environmental impact.
… said the company in a statement
The B24 marine biofuel, a blend of 24% B100 biodiesel and Marine Fuel Oil, is noteworthy for its capacity to substantially reduce carbon emissions and diminish the overall carbon footprint of maritime operations, CPN notes.
During the 2023 SAFETY4SEA Limassol Forum, Bill Stamatopoulos, Global Business Development Director, VeriFuel, gave a presentation on the use biofuels for the marine shipping sector. He explained that the ability to reduce emissions is determined by the feedstock, production process, and supply chain. However, there is currently no globally recognized standard or certification to validate green production from start to finish.
According to Bill Stamatopoulos, suppliers must be accredited by a reputable organization such as the International Sustainability Carbon Certification (ICSS), which establishes numerous conditions such as land, soil, and air preservation. It also considers zero deforestation, traceability across the supply chain, and ethics.
