CGR Arctic Marine along with Wuzhou Shipbuilding and Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute (SDARI) inked an agreement for the design and establishment of a 6.000 cbm LNG bunkering vessel. Through the construction of the LNG-bunkering vessel, CGR Arctic Marine aims to expand its operations in southeast Asia and South America.
According to CGR, this collaboration plays a major role in the commercialization of the liquid methane bunkering (LMB) design, while it will further advantage the LNG bunkering operations. The chairman of Wuzhou Shipbuilding Pan Xue Jian, VP of SDARI Zhou Zhi Yong, and founder of CGR Bard Norberg came all together and signed the agreement.
We strongly believe that our LMB 6 design will set new standards in flexibility, environmentally friendly, cost, and energy-efficient LNG bunkering operations in the future. We are very satisfied with the cooperation with Wuzhou Shipbuilding and SDARI during the concept design and pre-engineering phase and is looking forward to embark on the next phases on this project.
…said Bard Norberg.
Moreover, CGR it has developed and designed an innovative LNG bunkering vessel, which offers a multi-function gas recovery technology along with a hybrid power. Implemented with a containerized battery bank and a low energy-consuming cargo handling system, the company considers that the vessel will provide the lowest environmental footprint possible.

Concluding, the company noted that the design of the 6.000 cbm LNG bunkering vessel, will introduce to the shipping market a new gas handling process for fuel tank gassing-up, while it will focus on decontamination operations, such as vapor recovery, sub-cooling, and re-liquefaction. For the records, the bunkering vessel will be categorized as a IMO type C tank with spray foam insulation.
Overall, several companies have already invest in the construction of LNG bunkering vessels in the past, in order to boost and expand the demands of the LNG bunkering services. Such as the Pavilion Energy which has under construction of what is known as’ Singapore’s largest’ LNG bunkering vessel and Wärtsilä with its LNG bunkering vessel simulator.
