According to CCS (China Classification Society) China’s first hydrogen fuel cell powered boat, Three Gorges Hydrogen Boat No. 1, was successfully launched in Guangdong in mid-March.
The vessel was built by Jianglong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. for China Yangtze Power Co., Ltd. and was drawing-reviewed and inspected by CCS. It is a demonstration vessel of high-tech boat R&D projects. The passenger catamaran is 49.9 m long and 10.4 m wide, with a maximum speed of 28 km/h. At economy mode speed, it has a maximum cruise range of 200 kilometers.
It was designed for Class B service areas with a steel main hull and aluminum and glass curtain wall superstructures. A 500 kW hydrogen fuel cell and an 1800 kWh lithium battery system power the boat.
The use of hydrogen fuel cells, according to CCS, will provide an important theoretical foundation and data support for the subsequent promotion of hydrogen fuel cell boats in China. It also serves as an important platform for hydrogen fuel cell boat testing and experimentation, indicating that key technologies for hydrogen fuel cell boats in China have advanced to a new level.
