ECDIS Type specific training and IMO generic course training should not stop at sea, Mr. Durow highlights, discussing also other loss prevention challenges.
USCG provides guidance on the acceptance of Fiber Reinforced Plastic gratings as equivalent to steel on inspected vessels. FRP gratings, listed and labeled as meeting ASTM F3059 by an independent laboratory acceptable for testing for Approval Series 164.040 will not need USCG type approval.

A recent run of container loss claims by the London Club has highlighted some of the common contributory factors, emerging from the investigation process. The Club noted that the subject of mis-declared container weights continues to be a problem, however, it was the attending surveyor’s observations regarding cargo securing equipment that ‘catch the eye’.
In its Safety Flashes for April, IMCA emphasized on safety issues for crews involving cranes and lifting devices, in line with an announcement issued by the US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement earlier this year, relating to four successive relevant incidents in late 2017.
