Rotterdam’s cruise season is set to start on 15 March, when AIDAperla will arrive for the first time at the Cruiseport Holland Amerikakade. The vessel, which replaced the AIDAprima, has arrived in Rotterdam a total of 78 times between April 2016 and November 2017.
The agreement aims to improve the performance at the Doraleh Container Terminal, making it possible to handle an extra 300,000 20-foot TEU annually. The Doraleh terminal has a capacity of 1.6 million TEUs per year. This agreement came shortly after, Djibouti ended its cooperation with Dubai’s DP World.
After an agreement was signed between the port services provider, the government and Port Kelang Authority earlier this week, Northport was granted the 30-year concession for Northport and Southpoint until November 30, 2043.
The UK Department for Transport published the new Ports Good Governance Guidance. The Guidance focuses on corporate governance for all statutory harbour authorities in England and Wales. It also includes sections relevant to all types of statutory harbour authorities with specific detailed guidance for trusts ports and local authority owned ports.
Antwerp and Dakar port authorities will cooperate in the next few years, for Antwerp to reinforce its position on the coast of West Africa, and for the Port of Dakar to position itself as the main regional hub for freight. Dakar now plans to build a new port 50 km away from the present facility which with a keel depth of 18 metres will be able to handle the latest generation of giant container carriers without difficulty.
The port handled 68 cruise liners bringing over 140,000 passengers and crew to the region. In the container industry, combined total traffic through the Port and Bantry Bay Port Company reached 10.3 million tonnes in 2017, a very good increase of 8.6% compared to 2016. Total imports increased by 6.4% while exports increased by 12.3%.
The Port of Gothenburg informed that it proceeded to the implementation of increased automation, regarding large-scale pumping between terminals and refineries. The new system provides the terminals with fast notification about when pumping can take place, as well as information about the cost on completion.
The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority released the 2017 statistics for cargo through the Port. According to them overall cargo volume through the port reached a new record of 142.1 million tonnes. Sectors that presented the biggest growth were containers and bulk grain.
The South Carolina Ports Authority welcomed two new ship-to-shore cranes at the Wando Welch Terminal, to further enhance the handling of neo-Panamax vessels. The cranes arrived at the port just a day prior to the beginning of Charleston Harbor Deepening Project construction.
A formal ceremony was held at Terminal de Contenedores de Moín in Costa Rica, on February 23rd to commemorate the arrival of the facility’s first three Ship-to-Shore cranes and six Rubber-Tire Gantry Cranes. The new deep-water facility, on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast, will open in February 2019, propelling Costa Rica into a new role as a key global logistics hub for the region.
