US-based EcoEmissions Solutions takes over EcoEmissions Systems and targets marine market
US-based EcoEmissions Solutions says it has bought EcoEmissions Systems which produces an emissions-reducing Catalyst Injection System (CIS). According to a press release, EcoEmissions is initially focusing on the global marine and large diesel engine market.
The company quotes information on the size of the marine emissions problem published by the UK newspaper the Guardian and does not mention how its product fits in with Marpol Annex VI.
The company says its patented Eco unit injects the platinum-based catalyst solution into the engine cylinders via the air stream therefore allowing for a more complete burn of the diesel fuel, resulting in more power, reducing pollution dramatically and extending the engine life. It is a “fairly simple installation by trained personal”. The catalyst is then replaced every 500 hrs.
According to the companys website the system is designed for simplicity of use, the system consists of a catalyst injection unit containing replaceable catalyst bottles. The system is installed inside the engine room, along with an injection system that feeds the aerosol mist into the air intake system just prior to the combustion chamber.
The company says it is currently working with Holland America Lines, developing test and pre-installation protocols for this technology in the cruise ship Rotterdam as a pilot project for HALs entire fleet. EcoEmissions says that its system typically reduces fuel consumption by 8 to 9%.
