According to sources, a Carnival Cruise Line vessel was damaged while voyaging through the Panama Canal, on September 20; The company issued a statement informing that there were no injuries onboard.
Specifically, the owner company stated that Carnival Fantasy, which was built in 1990, lightly collided with one of the locks, while the water levels in the Canal were being lowered.
Following the damage of the vessel, the evaluation resulted to damage to the metal overhang, broken glass and handrails on Decks 9 and 10.
In the meantime, Carnival Cruise Line scheduled a cleaning procedure, which is planned to be completed on September 22. However, although additional repairs need extra time, the company supported that the guest should continue their voyage uninterrupted.
The initial evaluation of the accident suggests to damage to the metal overhang, broken glass and handrails on Decks 9 and 10. The company also added that the required cleaning was scheduled to be completed by September 22 and all consequent repairs would need more time but should not disrupt any guests.
The vessel arrived in Puerto Limon, Costa Rica, on Saturday September 21 morning as scheduled, having departed from its Mobile, Alabama, homeport for a 10-day voyage.
In mid-summer, Carnival experienced another incident, when a 37-year-old man fell overboard from the cruise ship Carnival Victory, while the vessel was sailing northwest of Cuba. In the meantime, crewmembers of the Carnival Fascination managed to rescue a passenger who jumped from Deck 10, with the crew and passengers immediately notifying the bridge team of the incident.
