On Friday, July 7th, 2023, an engine fire broke out on the Marella Discovery while it was departing Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic.
Firefighters arrived swiftly, and the fire was quickly extinguished with no injuries. The ship returned to Amber Cove for damage assessment and third-party inspections of the firefighting system before sailing.
The Marella Discovery returned to Amber Cove to await the arrival of third-party inspectors, who must fly in to meet the ship. This precludes the ship from returning to its home port of Port Canaveral on time, and the ship’s next voyage has been cancelled.
According to the company, Marella Cruises, affected customers would receive pro-data reimbursements or full refunds, depending on when they boarded the ship. Shore excursions purchased for ports not visited are also automatically refunded.
