Missing of nine Vietnamese crew members was reported, after their cargo vessel sank, following collision with unknown vessel, off the Vietnam’s southern coast, on early hours of March 28th.
According to the country’s Ministry of Transportation, at the time of the accident, there was a total of 11 seafarers onboard, 2 of whom were found saf by local search and rescue forces on liferafts. The forces found later another liferaft, but there was no one onboard.
The 3,074 dwt vessel, “Hai Thanh 26”, built in 2010, sank about 44 nautical miles to the east of Vung Tau City, in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, heading from Hai Phong to the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho.
Investigation vessels, including Petrolimex 14 oil tanker, are deployed to search for the rest of the crew. The investigation on the identification of the unknown vessel is also underway.
