The ship had started its journey from China and berthed at Hedland on 24 March. A smoke warning was issued for Port Hedland after the fire broke out, with both volunteer and career firefighters attending the scene. The blaze was soon brought under control.
However, several of those firefighters and their close contacts have now been directed to self-isolate, as the ship’s crew had not yet been given permission to disembark under Western Australia’s COVID-19 laws, ABC News reported.
Those who attended the incident have been asked to self-isolate as a precaution until WA Health has completed the risk assessment and better understands the risks to each individual concerned,
…a WA Health spokesperson said.
The causes of the incident are yet unclear.
