The fishing vessel ‘Deborah’ reportedly collided with the general cargo ship ‘Britannica Hav’ in the afternoon of 20th March, in the English Canal, north of Le Havre.
According to data provided by MRCC Jobourg France, the Maltese-flagged ‘Britannica Hav’ was en route from Spain to UK, when it was hit by the Belgium-flagged fishing vessel. As a result, the cargo ship sustained breached portside with ensuing water ingress, developed a list and capsized.
Seven crew went to life rafts and were picked up by Deborah. The fishing vessel’s skipper was reportedly slightly injured as a result from the incident.
The capsized cargo ship remained afloat and was drifting in southwest direction, monitored by search and rescue tug Abeille Liberte’. The rest of the freighter’s crew were transferred to land by helicopter.
