A 50,600GT Wallenius Wilhelmsen car carrier hit a small fishing vessel on March 18, sinking the four-tonne boat immediately.
The two Japanese fishermen escaped unscathed, the Japanese Coastguard said.
The accident happened at 8am on Thursday, March 18, about six kilometres south of the Centrair Airport in the Ise Straight, central Japan.
The 1982-built Medea, with a car capacity of 5,234 cars, had left the Port of Nagoya for Singapore when it hit the Kousei Maru.
The fishing vessel sank immediately but the fishermen were saved by passing vessels.
Japanese authorities are conducting investigations into the accident.
