The car carrier “City of Amsterdam” collided with the container ship “Conmar Bay” in the Kiel Canal at Breiholz in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany during the westbound transit, on April 22.
According to the sources, both vessels were transiting through the North-Baltic Sea Canal, in opposite directions, when the sudden force 9 winds pushed the car carrier City of Amsterdam on crossing path with the boxship.
Unfortunatelly the ships were unable to prevent the accident. Although the vessels suffered breaches, remained afloat without reported water ingress. Furthermore, a few containers from Conmar Bay fell over board. Luckilly, no injuries were reported.
A tug reportedly assisted the car carrier to Rendsburg port, and Conmar Bay sailed on to Kiel.
The vessels will be inspected before continuing their voyages.
