Canada is ready to mobilize two Navy ships as part of the country’s COVID-19 response. What is more, up to 24,000 defense force personnel will be readied as part of Canada’s pandemic response.
More specifically, Canada, is mobilizing sailors from HMCS Ville de Quebec and HMCS Moncton as well as the crew of a maritime helicopter detachment.
However, according to the Department of National Defence, the crews are being isolated in a hotel for 14 days, as a precautionary measure against the illness breaking out on the vessels.
Moreover, Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan informed that up to 24,000 defense force personnel will be deployed under Operation LASER, the Canadian Armed Forces’ worldwide pandemic response.
Support will now focus on northern and Arctic communities that have limited health and logistics capabilities. The Navy ships will help coastal communities that need assistance.
