Bureau Veritas (BV) has granted Genevos with an Approval in Principle (AiP) for their HPM-250 hydrogen fuel cell.
This 250 kW hydrogen fuel cell, designed to meet the needs of zero-emission coastal and offshore vessels, is set to attain Type Approval by 2025. The approval underscores Genevos’ commitment to providing fully-integrated and validated marine-certified systems, simplifying adoption for integrators and OEMs.
According to Genevos, the HPM-250 offers scalability, redundancy, and operates with minimal vibration, reducing maintenance while adhering to zero-emission regulations.
The launch of the HPM-250 aligns with the increasing availability of green hydrogen, expected to surge post-2025 due to ongoing large-scale production projects.
As informed, the modular nature of the HPM-250 allows compatibility with methanol and other e-fuel reformers, enhancing versatility for various vessel types and applications.
Phil Sharp, Genevos’ CTO, emphasized the significance of the HPM-250’s launch in advancing clean hydrogen propulsion for commercial and leisure craft. Building on previous successes, including 40 kW and 80 kW modules, achieving AiP marks a crucial step towards deploying high-power, zero-emission vessels, mitigating the maritime sector’s environmental impact.
Achieving AiP ensures that we are on the right track towards achieving a fully-certified product for the deployment on energy intensive hydrogen vessels, accelerating the next wave of high power, zero emission vessels to reduce the significant environmental impact of the maritime sector.
