Bureau Veritas joins the Nuclear Energy Maritime Organization

NEMO aims to establish robust standards for floating nuclear power, ensuring safety, reliability, and environmental stewardship. Collaborating with industry partners, Bureau Veritas supports this mission by providing expert guidance and advocating for high standards.

NEMO also aims to facilitate collaboration among experts to support regulators in developing standards for the deployment, operation, and decommissioning of floating nuclear power. By fostering knowledge sharing and advocacy, NEMO aims to reduce environmental impact and enhance economic competitiveness. The organization also provides a platform for stakeholders to network and exchange best practices.

Bureau Veritas is actively involved in supporting innovative nuclear technologies, such as small modular reactors (SMRs). They are currently working with ThorCon to develop a 500-MW molten salt nuclear power barge for operation in Indonesia. Bureau Veritas ensures compliance and safety throughout the process, identifying relevant standards and codes.

Furthermore, Bureau Veritas engages in policy advocacy, while also participating in international forums like the International Atomic Energy Agency’s symposium on floating nuclear power plants. They also support the French nuclear industry by discussing decarbonization strategies for port activities and ships, showcasing their commitment to sustainable nuclear energy solutions.
