The bunker sales in the Panama Canal decreased by 20.1% in comparison to the same period last year. Specifically, an overall of 723.894 metric tonnes of marine fuel was sold, on the contrary to the 905.444 mt that was sold in 2018.
Mainly, fuel oil held the majority of bunker sales.
About 652.179 mt of the residual grade were sold, compared to 71.715 mt of marine diesel oil (MDO).
On January and February 2019, the total of 513.082 mt of marine fuel oil was sold on the Pacific side of the Canal.

Also, about 210.812 mt was sold on the Atlantic side.
In the meantime, 956 vessels were bunkered during the period, marking a decrease of 15.3%, when compared to the 1.128 vessels that took marine fuel during the first two months of 2018.
Concluding, the number of bunker barges has slightly decreased. In January 2018, 31 were recorded and in February 2018, 29. In January and February of 2019, this number had slipped to 26.
