According to Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC), Brunswick port is back in operation, after the Golden Ray cargo ship capsized and led the port to close and halt its operations.
The Golden Ray capsized in St. Simons Sound, Brunswick, on September 8. Four of its crewmembers that were missing, were rescued and transmitted to medical care. Following the vessel’s capsize, the port was closed from Sunday and the USCG had ordered vessels sailing in the area, to avoid sailing in the area where the vessel capsized.
According to AJC, vessels will temporarily be evaluated on a case-by-case basis before travelling through the area. Authorities are still assessing how to remove the vessel, which is stuck on St Simons Sound.
We want to make sure we go at slow speeds, that there’s no wake from the vessel that would shift the capsized vessel in any way
… commented Griff Lynch, executive director of the Georgia Ports Authority.
