A Spanish ferry, carrying around 400 passengers, ran aground while sailing from Ibiza and Majorca, on August 16. After the incident rescue operations were launched by the coast guard and other emergency services.
The ferry ‘Pinar del Rio’ is operated by Balearia, and grounded off Benidorm, southeastern Spain, while the ship was preparing to moor in harbor with 393 passengers and 70 vehicles on board.
Luckily, no injuries were reported, however rescue operations took place by the Spanish coast guard and the crew of the vessel.
Providing a comment on the grounding, Balearia informed that all passengers are safe and they were evacuated on coast guard ships, as well its own tug boat.
It added that no oil spill is reported, but precautionary measures are being implemented.
Now, relevant authorities are looking into the incident, with divers trying to figure out how to refloat the ferry, and bring it to the port.
In the meantime, Balearia relocated passengers to other ships.
Pinar del Rio has run aground one more time, last June, off San Antonio in Ibiza. No major injuries were reported.
