Swire Shipping has successfully completed a sustainable B24 biofuel trial on a transpacific route between Vietnam and the United States.
As explained, Swire Shipping’s Sun Chief Express Ocean service, a collaboration with UWL, directly connects Vietnam to the United States, with express connections into North America and Cambodia, Indonesia and Thailand. The MV Suva Chief, a vessel on the Sun Chief Express Ocean service, was bunkered in Hong Kong with B24 biofuel, a blend of sustainable biodiesel of waste origin and conventional fuels.
The trial was conducted in partnership with Hong Kong-based marine fuel supplier, Chimbusco Pan Nation Petro-chemical Co Ltd (CPN), and Swire Shipping’s bunkering partner, the Hafnia Bunker Alliance.
Harry Stones, the President of Swire Shipping North America, stated that this initiative demonstrated their commitment to sustainable shipping solutions in response to the growing demand for greener options.
Stones mentioned that using sustainable B24 biofuel is expected to reduce well-to-wake emissions for customers by approximately 15% and expressed enthusiasm for continuing efforts to minimize their environmental impact and support a more sustainable maritime industry.
We are proud to have supported Swire Shipping in their successful biofuel trial, furthering our shared commitment to reducing emissions and fostering a more sustainable maritime future.
