Mats Nyfors

Mats Nyfors has worked in various roles in the maritime sector since 2008 with a keen interest in energy and maritime pollution mitigation. He started his career in 2012 as Project Engineer for a Marine Engineering company, providing consultancy for concept and basic design for ship machinery, auxiliary systems and propulsion systems. He joined Wärtsilä in 2018 as Engineering Manager with integration responsibility of exhaust gas cleaning equipment and retrofit services onboard for a major European container shipping company. In 2020, he joined the newly established Life-Cycle Solutions department as Sales Manager with responsibility of supporting customers in the Mediterranean and Atlantic with parts, field service, service agreements and upgrades for optimized operation of the installed scrubber systems onboard. He is currently working as General Manager for Decarbonization and Co-creation coordinating the co-creation of the next generation zero emission 4-stroke propulsion concepts in collaboration with ship owners, yards, charterers, design companies and class societies. We support our customers on their decarbonization journey to develop highly integrated, efficient and flexible propulsion solutions to shape a sustainable shipping future. He holds a MSc in Process and Systems Engineering & Industrial Management from Åbo Akademi University and also studied Chemical Engineering and Business at Imperial College London. He later undertook a Diploma in Marine Engineering from North Kent College and Lloyd’s Maritime Academy. He resides in Helsinki with his wife and two children.
