At least seven crew members have died after a fishing boat capsized following a collision with a sand barge off South Korea’s southeastern coast on 9 December.
The accident occurred near the city of Gyeongju, approximately 270 kilometers southeast of Seoul, around 5:43 a.m. local time. The 29-ton fishing boat, carrying three South Koreans and five Indonesian nationals, collided with a 456-ton barge.
South Korean authorities have launched a large-scale rescue operation to locate the sole missing passenger, an Indonesian national. The effort involves dozens of emergency workers, 15 coast guard vessels, and six helicopters.
The remaining passengers were rescued and rushed to hospitals. Meanwhile, the sand barge did not sustain any significant damage, and none of its crew members were injured.
