Vessels calling at Crimean ports are in breach of the sanctions imposed by EU, USA and others
The UK P&I Club has been informed of acase of ship being arrested in Ukraine following a call of that vessel to a Crimean port.
Vessels calling in Crimea have been monitored by various governmental and non-governmental bodies, including the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Border Police and the Public Monitoring Committee.
Calls to ports in the occupied and annexed by Russia Crimea are considered criminal offense according to the new article 332-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Under this law ships can be arrested and crew members can be prosecuted. If convicted, the crew members of an offending vessel may face from 3 to 5 years in prison.
