Two robbers armed with knives boarded a bulk carrier, while anchored at Godau Port, Vietnam, on 31st of January, according to data provided by IMB Piracy reporting Centre.
The robbers took the bosun hostage, threatened and injured him with a knife and then tied him up.
The bosun managed to free himself and informed the Master who then raised the alarm and the crew mustered.
A search was carried out and ships stores were reported missing. The crew reported the incident to Port Authorities who boarded the vessel for investigation. The bosun was sent ashore for medical treatment.
In the meantime, the 2017 IMB report showed mixed piracy results in Southeast Asian waters. Attacks in Indonesia reduced to 43 from 49 in 2016, but incidents in Philippino waters were more than double, from 10 in 2016 to 22 in 2017.
