The American P&I Club has released the latest instalment of its Good Catch series, in which it showcases the importance of finding a right-fitting vest.
The Club emphasizes that protective equipment is most effective when used properly. Before starting any task, take a moment to make a Good Catch by ensuring that your protective equipment fits you correctly. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is essential for seafarers due to their exposure to demanding tasks that can endanger their lives.
In cases such as this shown in the animation, protective equipment can greatly aid in saving a person’s life. However, PPE is not a “one-size-fits-all” situation. For instance, during Solent University’s 2020 research to determine whether ill-fitting personal protective equipment is causing problems onboard ships, more than 80% of female participants reported that they have experienced problems with PPE relating to their gender.
Finding right-fitting PPE is not only more comfortable, but it can also play a major part in ensuring safety.
