The American club recently announced the extension of pre-employment examinations certificates to 1st December 2021.
According to the American P&I Club, the significant restrictions on shipowners’ ability to perform regular crew changes, due to COVID-19, continue to be a challenge for the maritime community.
As a result, the club is further extending the validity of PEME certificates to December 1, 2021 for seafarers originating from Bulgaria, India, Indonesia, Latvia, Philippines, Poland, Romania, the Russian Federation and Ukraine who:
- currently hold valid American Club PEME certificates which have expired, or which are due to expire prior to December 1, 2021
- are currently deployed onboard a vessel entered for P&I cover with the Club.
This comes amid restricted crew mobility due to COVID-19 and follows a previous extension announced in July. For seafarers awaiting deployment, the current requirements remain in effect, as summarized below:
