Amadeus Schiffahrts, a subsidiary of HGK Shipping, is adding a new, wind-assisted, river-going coastal vessel called “Amadeus Saffier” to its fleet.
According to a statement by Amadeus Schiffahrts, the new vessel is equipped with a diesel-electric, “future-fuel-ready” drive system. In particular, the vessel can transition from using sulphur-reduced marine gas oil (MGO) to alternative, more sustainable energy sources.
Additionally, it features VentoFoils, a wind-assisted propulsion system (WAPS), which, when combined with an optimized hull shape and propeller, can reduce emissions by up to 50% and improve energy efficiency by up to 30% compared to the current international fleet.
Wolfgang Nowak, Managing Director of Amadeus Schiffahrts- und Speditions GmbH, highlighted the “Amadeus Saffier” as a key contributor to sustainability in the shipping industry saying: “Thanks to welcoming the ‘Amadeus Saffier’ into our fleet, we can offer our customers another important building block to provide a resource-saving supply chain.”
Gilbèrt de Bock, Owner and General Manager of De Bock Maritiem B.V., further emphasized the significance of this new vessel, stating, “We’re also continuing to espouse innovations and sustainability in shipping.”
The renewal of the European short-sea fleet is indispensable in order to meet the growing demands on the part of customers for modern transport logistics operations.
