MARAD & WHO
The Maritime Administration (MARAD) issued an advisory concerning the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV).
According to the advisory, form the 5th of June 55 piople have been confirmed to be infected with the virus and more than half of them affected have died.
Most cases have originated in the Arabian Peninsula (Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates). Cases identified in other countries (Italy, France, the UK, and Tunisia) apparently acquired the virus from travel to the Arabian Peninsula or from close contact with someone who had. Infected persons generally exhibit very severe pneumonia-like conditions.
Crewmembers or passengers who exhibit such conditions and have recently traveled to the Arabian Peninsula should be isolated, to the extent possible, until seen by a physician.
