Enhancing the health and safety measures across all of the emirate’s ports
After collaborating with the National Security Institute, the police and customs, Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) has teamed up with Abu Dhabi Civil Defense to further enhance the health and safety measures across all of the emirate’s ports.
Following the successful fire- and truck drivers’ safety campaigns earlier this year, ADPC and Abu Dhabi Civil Defense are now running a fire safety event that specifically targets larbourers working in port warehouses.
“Fire is Everyone’s Fight” is taking place from 20 – 22 October at Zayed Port’s warehouse units. On all three days officials from ADPC and Abu Dhabi Civil Defense will deliver presentations and show bespoke animated short films which address health and safety matters in an easy-to-understand manner and in multiple languages, including Arabic, English and Urdu.
In addition, all participants will receive wristbands with the relevant emergency numbers and have the chance to practice firefighting on state-of-the-art fire extinguisher simulators. All participants will also learn in simulated scenarios about the different kinds of fire, as well as the various types of fire extinguishers and their correct usage.
“Our highest priority is to maintain a safe workplace for all of our employees and port visitors. We follow a strict Health, Safety and Environment policy that follows international standards and is supported by our state-of-the-art infrastructure and technologies“, says Sultan Al Jaberi, VP Regulations, HSE and Security, ADPC and continuous:
“However, we always have to remind ourselves that the maritime industry is a high risk work environment and that most marine casualties are caused by some form of human error. That’s why it is our duty to create awareness of the safety hazards and communicate to all of our port users what can be done to minimize the risk factors.“
