ABS along with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) announced that completed a landmark joint development project (JDP) upon HHI’s Integrated Smart-ship solution (ISS) system. Namely, ABS identified the smart functions of the project and published the first Product Design Assessment (PDA), concerning project’s data infra-structure.
As explained, ABS also issued the first ever New Technologies Qualification for the Operational Performance Management (OPM) functions, which addresses the route optimization, performance monitoring and reporting capabilities of ISS system.
The OPM will enhance vessel’s operators to use ISS system, in order to be provided with the SMART (INF) notation and SMART(OPM) record comment.
In light of the situation, seven ABS-classed vessels (one FSRU, three VLECs and three Tankers) are under preparation to receive ABS smart notations and descriptions, subject to final surveys.
Smart technology has significant potential to drive asset performance. ABS is proud to work with HHI on practical applications of this technology, which is a key step on the road to Condition Based Class.
… said Patrick Ryan, ABS Senior Vice President, Global Engineering and Technology.
For the records, HHI reported that its ISS system has a data analysis platform based on the shipbuilding and smart technology and is incorporating it into an increasing number of vessels.
As the technology continues to develop, HHI will lead the smart-ship market not only by good shipbuilding but also by remaining connected with ship owners, providing innovative economic value to ship operations.
…Jae-Eul Kim, HHI Executive Vice President, CTO noted.
Overall, this is not the first time that ABS collaborate with HHI. In the past both sides have agreed on a framework for exchanging of Digitalization and Decarbonization (D&D) concepts to implement to existing and future designs.
