The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi laid the Foundation Stone of the 50 MW LNG Based Power Project on 30th December, 2018 at Hope Town, South Andaman. The 50 MW LNG based power plant will be established by NTPC and is expected to improve the quality of life of the residents of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The plant will take about 18 months to be operational after award of work, while it will be dual fueled with LNG or HSD. The fuels will come from the Indian Oil Corporation’s (IOCL) existing Depot at Andaman and Nicobar as per requirement.
India has entrusted NTPC with the responsibility of providing clean and environmentally sustainable power solutions for the Andaman and Nicobar islands. NTPC has already created a 5 MW Solar PV at Andaman & Nicobar and is currently establishing another 25 MW Solar PV project with battery backup.
The plant will also be equipped with air, water and noise pollution control systems to limit the environmental impact.
